The largest data science competition in Indonesia

Introduction

The objectives of the National Data Science Challenge (NDSC) are to:

  • Bring the tech community closer through working together and knowledge sharing
  • Provide an environment for the development of creative new ideas in Data Science
  • Equip students and professionals with essential technical skills and expertise to prepare them for Industry 4.0

Through this competition, we hope to showcase the ubiquity and usefulness of data in getting insights, thus reinforcing Indonesia’s emphasis on driving the digital economy and the use of big data.

About the Challenge

National Data Science Challenge 2020 is a one-day data competition open to all professionals and students.

The competition consists of two rounds of Data Science and Data Analytics problems designed by Shopee Tech Teams. Participants must analyse the dataset, draw insightful conclusions and solve the problems in a specified amount of time. Not only will participants get a chance to code to generate insights that solve real industry problems, this competition will also provide them with an opportunity to test their coding skills and understand the importance of data skills required in Shopee.

  • All participants will receive a certificate of accomplishment at the end of the award ceremony only if their project has been submitted successfully before the deadline.
  • Please note that for the full-time/internship opportunities, actual placements are not guaranteed. It will be dependent on candidate’s fit during interviews.

Our panel of prestigious judges will be selecting teams from each category with the most unique and creative solutions.

About the Challenge

Q1:Am I required to code in python?

There is no restriction on the programming language.

Q2:I have no/little knowledge about coding. Can I still participate?

Yes you can! We have training workshops specially organised by our partners. Do keep a lookout for these training workshop invites that will be sent to registered teams.

Q3:Is it necessary for the whole team to stay throughout the competition?

Yes, the entire team has to be physically present throughout the competition, unless you are residing outside of Jakarta, Bogor, Depok, Tangerang, and Bandung.

Q4:What do I have to bring to the competition?

Please bring along your own set of laptop, charger and adaptor as no equipment will be provided. Each team member is restricted to one set of laptop, charger and adaptor.

Q5:Will I receive a certificate at the end of the competition, even if I did not win the top 3 prizes?

Yes, you will receive a certificate although you are not the top 3 winners.

Eligibility

Q1:I am not based in Indonesia during the course of the competition, can I still participate in the challenge?

The challenge is currently only open to participants who are based in Indonesia.

Q2:I am based in Indonesia but I will not be able to attend the Challenge Day in Jakarta on 29 February 2020, can I still take part in the competition?

We highly encourage you to be present on the Challenge Day, however, if you are not based in Jakarta, Bogor, Depok, Tangerang, or Bandung, you can participate in the competition online.

Q3:What is the age limit?

You need to be at least 16 years old in order to participate. If you are below 16 but you are keen to join this competition, please write in to us at ndsc.id@shopee.com and we will review it on a case-by-case basis.

Registration

Q1:How do I know if my registration for the NDSC is successful?

You will receive a confirmation email in 1-2 weeks’ time after you have registered.

Q2:I am a tech professional but with no background in data science or I have just graduated and joined the tech industry, can I still participate in the beginner category?

This will be reviewed on a case-by-case basis.

Q3:My team consists of both students/non-tech professionals and tech professionals. Do we sign up for the Beginner or Advanced category?

You can sign up for either category. However, registration for the Beginner category for teams consisting of both students/non-tech professionals and tech professionals will be reviewed on a case-by-case basis.

Q4:Is it mandatory to sign up as a group?

Yes, it is mandatory to sign up as a group of 2 to 4 people.

Q5:Can my team participate in two different categories?

No, you can only participate in 1 category.

Q6:When filling in the registration form, I keyed in my details incorrectly. How do I make changes to it after the submission?

Please write in to ndsc.id@shopee.com with the following details:

4. The correct details.
We will make the necessary changes on our side. You can change information the latest a week after you get the confirmation email.

Training Workshops

Q1:Can I participate in both Beginner and Advanced training workshops?

This is subject to vacancy, as priority will be given to participants registered in the respective categories. If there are vacancies for both training workshops, we will definitely allow you to participate in both.
